The ultimate e-waste warrior comes to Virgin TV for a special movie showing to inspire families everywhere to save on e-waste

By Virgin Media

Monday 14 October is International E-Waste Day, and at Virgin Media we’re committed to achieving zero waste operations by 2025 by doing what we can to help everyone reduce e-waste. We hope we can inspire everyone to do their bit, especially the younger generation who are going to inherit this world from us.

To that end, we’ve teamed up with Disney+ to offer viewers the chance to watch a movie featuring the ultimate e-waste warrior – WALL-E! Tune in to Virgin TV Showcase (CH 100) at 7pm on Monday 14 October and you can watch this brilliant, thought-provoking film from Disney Pixar at no extra cost.

The movie is the story of the last robot left on Earth long after humankind was forced to abandon the planet after using up its natural resources. WALL-E is a lone trash collector who discovers plant life and begins to nurture it, providing hope that that humans can regenerate Earth – but he’s distracted when he meets a sleek robot named EVE.

He’s also, let’s not forget, the cutest robot ever dreamed up, one reason the film has remained so endearingly popular. It also comes with a message about reducing waste that gets through to audiences of any age but is never heavy-handed. It’s a beautifully animated and written adventure with colourful characters on a memorable journey across the universe.

Do your bit with Community Calling

You can help out in the campaign to reduce e-waste by passing on an old phone to someone who needs it. Community Calling, set up in partnership with Hubbub, is an initiative from Virgin Media O2 and the National Databank to encourage people to data-wipe, clean and rehome unused smartphones – along with six months’ free data, minutes and texts – to get more people digitally connected and tackle e-waste. Find out more here.

And there’s also O2 Recycle, another scheme that’ll help you sell or recycle your old devices and reduce e-waste. Smartphones, tablets, consoles, wearables and more can be recycled or resold as “like new” products to customers, saving them from going to landfill. And it’s open to anyone regardless of their mobile network.
