Every year, we come together to celebrate Pride Month and the amazing LGBTQ+ community. It’s a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, but also a time to acknowledge that we still have much more to do.

The suggestion to name the movement “Pride” came from activist L Craig Schoonmaker, who in 2015 said: “A lot of people were very repressed, they were conflicted internally and didn’t know how to come out and be proud. That’s how the movement was most useful, because they thought, ‘Maybe I should be proud’.”

To celebrate this year’s Pride and its messages of acceptance, allyship and equality, you can find Watch with Pride – a curated collection of programming – available to watch in On Demand, for the whole of Pride Month.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

All Of Us Strangers

A stacked cast brings this beautiful story of two strangers finding each other, and all the complexities that love holds, to the screen. It’s anchored by two central performances from Andrew Scott (Ripley) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun) that are quite stunning to behold. In a film that touches on grief, as well as the fantastical, it’s a story that will stay with you long after the end credits roll.

Queerpiphany

Munroe Bergdorf and Tayce join up with a star-studded line-up of British LGBTQ+ celebrities to discuss the pop culture moments that influenced their queer identities (or “queerpiphanies”) and made them the icons they are today. The MTV show’s guests include Yasmin Finney, Becky Hill and Nick Grimshaw, who plan a fictional party in honour of these moments.

Leo Reich: Literally Who Cares?!

The self-diagnosed “important young mind” of comedy shares some of his “notoriously perfect opinions” (his words) with the community. Nominated for Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe 2022, Leo blends songs and anecdotes in this hilarious stand-up special, while attempting to answer the swirling uncertainty of our collective future. With important questions like, “Am I hot?”, this stand-up special from Sky Comedy is unmissable.

Forced Out

This original from Sky Documentaries tells the shocking story of LGBTQ+ veterans who faced intrusive investigations, ruthless interrogations and, in some cases, highly unethical physical examinations by the military police. It also meets the small group of veterans who took on the campaign to change the law and prove to the MoD, politicians and the nation that being gay should not be a barrier to serving their country.

Football’s Coming Out ponders that question alongside the challenges a player might experience if they chose to publicly come out. Pride At The Apollo

Throughout its many, many series, the long-running Live At The Apollo has seen some brilliant acts showing that while panel shows often don’t always do a good job of showing diversity, the comedy scene is rich with LGBTQ+ stand-up comedians. Queer As Folk

The term “groundbreaking” is often thrown at Queer As Folk. But aside from limited gay characters in soaps, QAF – written by Russell T Davies (who would go on to reboot Doctor Who and write shows like It’s A Sin, Cucumber and A Very English Scandal) – was the first British TV drama to focus on the lives and loves of young gay men. Step back in time to the late 90s/early 00s Canal Street, and get immersed in the lives of Stuart, Vince and Nathan, three friends living, working and partying in Manchester.

New Girls On The Block
